Hanze University of Applied Sciences is a large, comprehensive university of applied sciences that has been educating skilled and committed professionals for over two centuries. Hanze graduates enrich those they come into contact with, both individuals and society at large.
Location
Groningen is an up and coming student city with half of its 202,700 citizens under the age of 35. The city is surrounded by peaceful countryside while boasting a picturesque, active, and safe city center with a nightlife that never sleeps. The city’s deep history is showcased throughout its architecture that sits alongside advanced, modern sports facilities easily accessible by students of the university.
Groningen was voted the best student city in the country in 2015, 2016 and 2018 and is one of the country's youngest cities. Several student societies and international associations can be found in the city as well as plenty of options for a night out or a shopping spree.
Accreditations
The Netherlands, unlike most other countries, does not accredit higher education institutions, rather their programs. Nonetheless, higher education institutions in the Netherlands have the option to undergo an institutional audit. Hanze UAS was one of the first to do so and received a positive assessment valid until May 2024.
All individual programs at Hanze UAS are accredited by the Accreditation Organization of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). The accreditato process is made up of three steps: self evaluation, external assessment, and the accreditation and occurs every six years.
Programs
Hanze UAS offers 16 full-time Master’s Degree programs and 1 part-time Master’s Degree program in the areas of: Art & Music; Business & Economics; Communication, Media & Design; Energy; Engineering; Entrepreneurship; Health Care; IT; Life Sciences; Sports Sciences; and Sports.
These master’s programs are designed in cooperation with national and international companies, organizations and educational institutions making them extremely unique and some of the highest quality education in applied sciences available globally.
Scholarships
Hanze University of Applied Sciences offers a range of scholarships, funded or co-funded by Hanze UAS as well as the Dutch government. Hanze UAS provides scholarships for incoming international students and Dutch students such as the Hanze Scholarship, Orange Tulip Scholarship, and the Hanze Minerva Scholarship. For candidates to be eligible they must meet certain requirements that are available on the website.
Fun fact
Hanze University of Applied Sciences consistently reflects its appreciation for the faculty and students, one of the ways is the Walk of Fame in which the names of award winners are immortalized on the Zernikeplein (a walk path). Every year new names are cemented into the University’s history such as the winners of the Hannie Schaft Award and the Innovation award as well as international music competitions.
