The HEC Paris Master in Strategic Management combines intensive theory with immersive industry experiences. A dynamic curriculum is designed around practitioner-led teaching, exposing students to the wisdom and knowledge of those with firsthand experience.
“Students are given theory-based academic content from professors, but a lot of our curriculum is actually designed by practitioners from leading companies that we invite onto our course,” explains John. “This creates the connection between theory and practice.” (01:35)
Students also participate in business simulations, case studies, and career treks. These give them the chance to apply theory to real-world situations while sharpening their decision-making abilities. They can further personalize their study experience with a choice of more than 15 elective courses. These range from general strategy themes and industry-specific courses to sustainability and AI-focused modules.
Studying at HEC Paris is a truly international experience. There are more than 135 different nationalities represented on campus, with around 75% of the master’s cohort comprising international students. This creates a richly diverse study environment.
Students form close bonds with their peers, working together in small groups to develop their cross-cultural collaboration skills. People from different perspectives [with] different ideas come together to create something new and really important,” John says. “It also helps people grow as individuals,” he adds. “That’s what we’re looking to do at HEC on the master’s. Not just create people who can go out and get a great job, but can also be great people, and develop within the business social scene as well. (04:59)
HEC students also have access to an 80,000-strong alumni network. One of the strongest and most diverse alumni networks in Europe, it provides support both during and after the program.
Modern leaders need to be curious, creative thinkers. They also need complex problem-solving and analytical skills. These are skills that every major corporation is looking to have in its organization. Yet, they are extremely difficult to obtain in early careers.
As John explains, ambitious professionals shouldn’t look to get these skills later in their careers. “You need them now. The problem-solving skills, the analytical skills, the exposure to different managerial problems…. [They] are the perfect foundation for addressing any kind of problem in any kind of context,” he says. “We are in an uncertain world, economically and politically, and managers today need to be adaptable and understand which factors matter most.” (06:17)
