A Curriculum Designed for Global Impact
In a brief chat with MASTERGRADSCHOOLS, Warre Germis from Belgium describes discovering his purpose in social impact while studying the Master in Global Management (MGM) at Antwerp Management School (AMS).
A departure from previous academic experiences, Warre praised AMS’s stimulating and interactive learning environment. He explains that “MGM is more global[ly] oriented…it was way more dynamic.” (0:09)
Warre happily shares that it was “actually [the] first time in my life [that] I really enjoyed studying” (0:05). This shows how the program creates a fun and immersive learning journey.
The courses, smaller class sizes, and travel opportunities all made this learning experience dynamic. His first-hand account suggests a departure from traditional rote learning models, in favor of a hands-on approach that embraces adaptability and global perspectives.
Warre had the opportunity to travel to Brazil and collaborate with local NGOs, providing an unforgettable life experience as part of his program. AMS provides experiential learning that has real-world impact.
Stronger Connections in Smaller Classrooms
The smaller class sizes, which had around 30 people, nurtured a strong sense of community and allowed students to form deep connections, unlike those in larger institutions.
Warre recalls, “The class was pretty small, like 30 people, you really get to know each other [and] you connect on a deeper level.” (0:13)
Experiential Learning Through International Travel
The master’s program included a travel component to Brazil, where Warre and his classmates worked with a local NGO, providing practical application of their studies. Subsequently, this hands-on experience had a profound effect on him and consolidated his learning.
“The travel to Brazil, working with [a] local NGO …we managed in that short amount of time, to put something forward that they could use too, that was crazy, that was amazing!” (0:20)
Warre gained confidence and ambition through academic learning, cross-cultural travel, and working with a local NGO in Brazil.
Empowering the Best Leaders for the World, Not of the World
A pivotal aspect of Warre’s experience was the seismic shift in his understanding of leadership. He was deeply moved by the school’s ethos, “AMS has this beautiful quote. We want to create the best leaders not of the world but for the world. And these particular words, for me, changed a lot. I want to be the best leader for the world…having [a] social, positive impact.” (0:30)
His studies at AMS inspired a newfound desire to have a positive impact on the world.
A Journey of Growth, Purpose, and Ambition
The MGM program experience resulted in significant personal growth for Warre, instilling ambition and a belief in his capacity to make a difference in the world. This illustrates the catalytic effect the program had on his self-perception and future goals.
Warre concludes, “That is something I learned here [at AMS]. [It] made me very ambitious. I feel like I can conquer the world right now.” The culmination of these experiences contributed to a sense of preparedness, self-belief, and empowerment.
