Jomar’s early exploration of the fashion industry

Before joining the MSc in Fashion and Luxury Marketing, Jomar already had an impressive fashion resume. “My experience back in Holland was in a fashion house focusing on premium streetwear and sports fashion. I had two internships there in marketing and one in product development.” (00:09)

One stand-out project on his packed resume focused on designing football jerseys for amateur teams all over the Netherlands

In addition to his internships, Jomar showed an early entrepreneurial flair. In December 2020, he co-founded a streetwear reselling startup called VanEckie with a close friend. The company gave Jomar an opportunity to learn a new set of skills. “We resell hard-to-get streetwear items, and my role there is to execute the brand strategy.”

His day-to-day work would include marketing and communication, where he discovered a new set of passions. “I really love to make content and copywriting and making visuals.” (00:29) This new leadership position, coupled with the creative side of marketing and communication, gave Jomer a headstart in understanding the foundational elements of his course.

Although the MSc at TBS Education (TBS) mainly focuses on marketing, Jomar’s pre-master projects allowed him to hone his skills in other areas, such as product design and development.

Understanding the links between the different functions in the sector was a smart move that gave him a solid foundation when Jomar began his studies. Similarly, the practice of gathering a broad range of experience is also helpful after graduation. By being aware of the different career avenues available, you can make more confident career decisions and even create synergies between diverse disciplines.

Choosing the MSc in Fashion and Luxury Marketing at TBS Barcelona

Jomar’s decision to study at TBS Education was another sign that he wanted to expand his expertise. Having already dipped his toes in the seas of luxury branding, he says, “I decided to study the MSc in Fashion and Luxury Marketing in TBS Barcelona because I wanted to have more focus on the luxury segment.” (00:43

TBS is uniquely located for fashion and luxury — just a few minutes’ walk from the iconic street Passeig de Gràcia. The center for luxury shopping in Barcelona, it is home to brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, and Prada.

For all of its master’s programs, TBS aims to tap into local businesses to broaden the learning experience. As Jomar remembers, “We had various workshops with luxury brands in Barcelona.” (00:56) Students get even more hands-on learning through a four-to-six-month internship in a national or international company. This practical experience allows students to apply what they learn in the classroom while strengthening their resumes.

These opportunities are bolstered by practical consulting projects with real companies and study trips to leading names in fashion and luxury. Jomar found this aspect of the program particularly inspiring. “We do this for real-life companies as well,” he says, “so it’s very exciting to see the outcome for something which could happen in real life.” (01:05

But it’s not all about creating a winning resume. Another key aspect of the program is its emphasis on collaboration and teamwork, as Jomar outlines. “We work in a lot of project groups with students from all different nationalities.” (01:00) These project groups allow students to learn from one another, fostering a multicultural learning environment that prepares them for a career in the global fashion industry.

Living life in Barcelona

The allure of Barcelona as a study destination played a major role in Jomar’s move from the Netherlands. From Antoni Gaudí’s modernist architecture to the boutique tailors of the Born neighborhood and the Design Museum, studying in Barcelona offers an immersive experience and first-hand insights into the world of fashion and luxury brands.

Alongside his studies at TBS, Jomar had the opportunity to immerse himself in the vibrant and fashionable city of Barcelona. As Jomar points out, “If you look at the streets, it’s very multicultural,” and this diverse atmosphere produces a unique style that is “really urban, really street.” (01:31)

Barcelona is abuzz with options for ambitious young students on the lookout for something new. Outside the classroom, Jomar gives us a rundown of what’s on offer. “In my spare time, I like to go to the beach, watch the sunset, go to bars, to restaurants, hang out with friends.” (01:15

However, Jomar’s main reason for coming to the city is to earn his MSc in Fashion and Luxury Marketing. The city’s thriving fashion industry provides countless networking opportunities, allowing students to establish valuable connections with industry professionals. Furthermore, the diverse cultural influences present in Barcelona contribute to a unique and inspiring environment during the fashion and luxury marketing program.

Future aspirations and advice for prospective students

In short, Jomar’s instinct for broadening his knowledge has opened up all kinds of doors in the sector. “In the future, my dream would be to work in product development and marketing in one of the luxury brands, luxury houses, or maybe agencies.” (01:34

With an impressive resume of diverse experiences, he has made his profile extremely attractive to future employers.

Jomar’s journey through the MSc in Fashion and Luxury Marketing program offers an inspiring insight into what others can expect. He advises prospective applicants, “If you’re really interested in luxury and fashion, I would say go for it.” (01:55)
