School

IBEI is an inter-university institute created in 2004 as a joint effort of all five public universities in the Barcelona metropolitan area and CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) to promote postgraduate training and research in politics and international relations in order to advance the understanding of global challenges to governance in our world. Now into its second decade, IBEI has become consolidated and achieved a high level of recognition as an academic and research centre at both European and international level.

Location

Students at IBEI enjoy living in one of the most attractive cities in Europe, Barcelona. With the cities’ historic past and unprecedented urban transformationa, Barcelona has become a beautiful and fascinating place to be. The city offers a combination of a wonderful academic environment with an outstanding quality of life. 

IBEI is integrated in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra’s (UPF) Research Park at the Ciutadella Campus. UPF lies in the Vila Olimpica neighborhood, alongside the Barcelona Zoo. The area consists of modern apartment blocks and lovely green spaces such as the Parc de la Ciutadella. The city offers a stunning cityscape, a blend of sea and mountains as well as the fascinating architecture within the city. 

Accreditations

Programs at IBEI are regulated by an Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS). IQAS evaluates student satisfaction and overall operation of the programs with the aim of maintaining continual improvement of the Master’s degrees. Assessments are made daily by the Council via the Commission for Quality Teaching, the organization responsible for monitoring the IQAS for the Master’s programs at IBEI. 

Programs

IBEI offers a Master’s in: International Development; International Relations; International Security; Public Policy; and a Research Master’s in International Studies. The Master’s in International Development is a one-year program with an interdisciplinary approach. 

The Master’s in International Relations offers students an innovative education that seeks to face the contemporary challenges produced by globalization in recent years. The Master’s in International Security is a one-year, interdisciplinary program with focus on peace and war studies. 

Scholarships

IBEI offers four scholarships that partially or completely cover a student's tuition fee. IBEI offers a select number of merit-based scholarships that cover a partial amount of the candidate's tuition costs. The application form for the Master’s programs include the option to apply for the scholarships. 

Fun fact

IBEI offers several webinars and seminars throughout the academic year. The Seminar Series on the U.S. Foreign Policy, a research seminar on how U.S. policy towards NATO has changed over the last 30 years. Seminars and Webinars at IBEI are open to all students of the institute and welcome new ideas and perspectives.
