The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS) is not just another university—it’s a new kind of institution designed to tackle the world’s most complex problems through interdisciplinary thinking. Instead of traditional subject-based learning, LIS brings together knowledge from multiple disciplines—data science, philosophy, behavioral economics, public policy, and beyond—to help students solve real-world challenges.

Location

Located in Whitechapel, East London, the LIS campus sits at the heart of one of the city's most vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhoods. With proximity to Brick Lane and Shoreditch, students benefit from a thriving arts, tech, and business ecosystem, ideal for networking and career growth.

Accreditations

LIS holds independent degree-awarding powers granted by the Office for Students (OfS), the UK’s higher education regulator. This ensures that the MASc program meets high academic and quality standards, giving graduates a recognized and respected qualification. As a university founded specifically to address modern, real-world challenges, LIS provides students with a unique and future-focused educational experience that is different from traditional postgraduate programs.

Programs

The Master of Arts and Sciences (MASc) in Interdisciplinary Problems and Methods is designed for professionals, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who want to develop a cross-disciplinary skillset to solve global challenges. The program brings together quantitative analysis, qualitative research, and systems thinking to equip students with advanced problem-solving techniques.

Students at LIS do not just study theories; they apply their learning to live projects with partner organizations, working on real-world issues such as climate change, AI ethics, and social justice. Throughout the program, students build a professional portfolio, developing projects such as policy reports, digital solutions, and social impact strategies that showcase their ability to tackle complex problems.

The LIS MASc offers flexible study options, with a one-year full-time (on-campus) track and a two-year part-time (remote + in-person hybrid) track. This allows students to balance their studies with work or other commitments, making it ideal for mid-career professionals or those looking to transition into interdisciplinary roles.

Scholarships

LIS is committed to making its master’s program accessible to talented individuals, regardless of their financial background. The MASc Innovation Scholarship provides financial support to students who demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking, creative problem-solving, and leadership potential.

Scholarship recipients can receive up to £5,000 towards their tuition fees. The program is open to self-funded students, and selection is based on a combination of academic merit and demonstrated innovation.
