Fun fact

In 2021, The University of Auckland received a new name from the Māori people of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in an official gifting ceremony. The new name, Waipapa Taumata Rau, reflects the University’s ongoing relationships with iwi and champions building respect for Māori knowledge. The institution continues on its journey to create an identity that accepts all individuals and groups from around the world, while reflecting the University’s unique place in it.
