An M.S. in Business Analytics is quickly becoming one of the most popular and competitive master’s programs for business students. In this video on MASTERTUBE, Rady School of Management’s Emily Dayton details the application process for their M.S. in Business Analytics program.
The M.S. in Business Analytics is a 21st-century business degree for graduates looking to take the next leap in their career. It equips students with the skills to use data and analytics to identify new business opportunities within organizations. And in a modern-day business environment that is often data-rich, that’s an invaluable skill for employers.
The value of this degree to employers is illustrated in a 2018 GMAT report, in which 52% of the companies surveyed planned to hire a business analytics graduate in the next 12 months.
The University of California, San Diego – Rady School of Management’s MSBA program can be completed full-time in 11 months or on a part-time basis over 17 months, meaning you don’t have to shelve your current career to study the program.
Emily Dayton is a Graduate Admissions Advisor at Rady School of Management, working closely with students interested in the MSBA. She shares the details of their application process:
“The steps in the admission process for the MSBA program begin with the online application. In addition, all applicants are required to submit either a valid GRE or GMAT score, and for our international students, a valid TOEFL or IELTS score,” she explains. (00:17)
“In addition, letters of recommendation, CV or resumé, and the statement of purpose is required. Interviews are also required for the application process and are by invitation only. Once an application is reviewed, it is sent to the admissions committee for final review and for an admissions decision.” (00:41)
Emily indicates that the Rady admissions team aims to come to a decision within eight weeks of the application being submitted. Take care when filling out the application, however, because incomplete applications – including those missing a GMAT or GRE test score – will slow down the process. This is especially important when you consider that applications are considered on a rolling basis, so Emily recommends that students submit their applications “sooner rather than later.” (01:44)
You should start preparing for the GMAT or GRE – and the TOEFL or IELTS if required – as soon as possible. Remember that you’re permitted to take the GMAT more than once, so you don’t need to pin all of your hopes on acing the test the first time around. In fact, business schools tend to only be interested in your highest GMAT score.
At Rady, Emily also recommends that you speak directly with the admissions team before applying: “Students can get started [with the application] right away by having a one-on-one advising session with one of our admissions advisors.” (01:25)
