Today’s bright, ambitious professionals have the curiosity to learn and the power to change the world. They can use this power to create a sustainable future for all.
This principle is the cornerstone of EDHEC Business School. The school’s Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Business Transformation teaches you how to align profit with purpose. A diverse curriculum prepares students for a variety of global roles where sustainability is paramount. It also instills a creative, global mindset, giving you all the tools you need to become a catalyst for change.
Guergana Guintcheva is the Director of MSc Specializations in Business Management at EDHEC. She highlights how the program’s design was centered around the shifting priorities of modern business. Nowadays, companies must think beyond financial performance metrics.
“Now, they also have to prove their positive impact on society,” she says. “That was the starting point to create and implement this MSc.” (01:24)
Positive societal impact is part of the EDHEC DNA. The school, founded in 1906 in France, was previously awarded the prestigious SD&SR label in recognition of its commitment to sustainable development and responsibility.
Learning to Shape a Changing World
The EDHEC MSc in Sustainable Business Transformation goes beyond mere awareness of modern sustainability issues. A large focus of the program prepares students to develop action-oriented, evidence-based solutions.
As Guergana explains, “We also equip them with tangible tools to calculate performance, for example, of ESG factors … all the elements they need to lead the organizations through more sustainable actions and decisions.” (03:42)
EDHEC students are taught the importance of seeing the planet and society as interconnected. This integrated approach is a key differentiator of the program. “[It’s] very important that we address sustainability as a holistic [idea],” explains Guergana. “Which means that all the disciplines of management will be included in the reflection around sustainability. For example, strategy, marketing, negotiation, and also soft skills [for] leadership.” (02:37)
This all-encompassing approach to sustainability equips students to balance business performance with social and environmental responsibility. It also frames sustainability as an opportunity for innovation, rather than a restriction.
Real World Immersion Sets This MSc Apart
The MSc in Sustainable Business Transformation bridges the gap between theory and practice through close ties with industry and immersive experiences. Closing the space between academic frameworks and practical application via EDHEC’s unique methodology encompassing:
- Core curriculum
- Blended learning
- Applied learning
- Personal performance coaching
In addition, seminars with partners bring core concepts to life. Through this direct access to the real-world of sustainability challenges in business, students learn about lifecycle analysis, supply chain transparency, and sustainability reporting from people who work with these issues every day.
Exposure to everyday aspects of the job of an ESG manager or sustainability lead, such as monitoring traceability platforms, managing supplier engagement, and regulatory compliance, links back to their modules in the program. Exploring supply chain management, LCA, and sustainability reporting, for example, adds a practical dimension to the curriculum that’s invaluable and makes the coursework unforgettable.
Engaging with Sustainability Challenges Firsthand
EDHEC MSc students are exposed to real-world sustainability experience with immersive learning expeditions. These overseas study trips are part of the school’s personalization offer. They take place across a variety of European destinations, offering students an opportunity to directly experience, analyze, and address the environmental and social issues of our times.
“Currently, we have four different learning expeditions,” says Guergana. “Every learning expedition has a specific topic. For example, we have one in Bulgaria, which is on entertainment management. We have another one in Kraków, which is focused on startups [and] how small companies can be more innovative in sustainability.” (04:53)
Students also get an opportunity to explore the ethical use of technology in Dublin. This involves a three-day training program delivered by CeADAR, the National Centre for Applied Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
The Key Role of Industry Partners
EDHEC’s MSc in Sustainable Business Transformation is deeply woven with close corporate partnerships. These connections provide real-world insights through masterclasses, workshops, and case studies.
One such collaboration is with EY, a multinational professional services network. As part of the curriculum, students visit the EY ImpACT Lab for a powerful insight into the importance of sustainability and the role they can play in driving meaningful change.
As part of the EY partnership, students are immersed in an array of topics through various masterclasses. “We have one on sustainability and how, [as] a consulting company, they help other organizations deal with this transition,” says Guergana. “We have another masterclass about how finance needs to stay human, and what can be done [using] artificial intelligence.” (06:20)
Aside from EY, the program connects students with companies from various industries. These range from energy to fashion, always focusing on sector-specific transformation challenges, while giving students valuable networking opportunities.
Driving Comprehensive Change
Many graduates from the EDHEC MSc in Sustainable Business Transformation become sustainability consultants, ESG analysts, and strategy specialists. Yet, with such a broad understanding of sustainability, they bring influence that is multifaceted.
“Most of the time, they work across different functions in the company,” says Guergana. “Companies transitioning to more sustainable decisions and actions need to have this ‘zoom out’ vision. [This gives them a] cross-functional understanding of what kind of decisions they need to implement to be more sustainable in the future.” (08:16)
Students land these roles with the help of EDHEC’s robust Career Services. Employability is also boosted by a 65,000-member alumni network across 130 countries. This network has more than 500 events a year, connecting students with leading global companies across a wide range of industries.
The First Step Toward a Career with Meaning and Purpose
The EDHEC MSc in Sustainable Business Transformation prepares students for long-term career impact. They graduate ready for roles that offer competitive compensation and the chance to align their career with their own values. As Guergana explains, this could be within their current career path or a new one.
“It depends on [their] personal expectations,” she says. “Some of them [decide] to change industries because they are variety seekers. Others decide to stay in only one. But all of them, long term, I think they [seek] to change the behaviors [of] companies; in terms of actions and decisions, in line with sustainability.” (14:40)
This change of behavior is critical. Tomorrow’s successful companies will be the ones who realize sustainable development is not just a nice-to-have, but fundamental to longevity. They’ll be led by people who don’t just understand sustainability challenges; they also have the ability and the desire to make a difference.
