QS Business Master’s Rankings 2027

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Business Master’s Rankings 2027 offer a comprehensive guide to the world’s leading business schools for specialized master’s study. Pursuing a full-time master’s program remains a smart investment, arming graduates with the skills needed to navigate a global business landscape that keeps shifting at an ever-faster pace. This year’s edition highlights institutions that are best equipped to prepare students for the increasingly complex demands of today’s business world.

What sets these rankings apart from other business education evaluations is their exclusive focus on specialized master’s programs, rather than the traditional Master of Business Administration (MBA) route. The methodology is built to surface programs with strong industry connections, solid career outcomes, and genuine value for money, spanning five distinct rankings that cover the key pillars of business education.

As more students opt for targeted, specialized business education over the broader scope of an MBA, these rankings have only grown in relevance. The 2027 edition captures the latest market shifts and employer expectations, cementing its place as a go-to resource for anyone weighing their career path after graduation.

Here Are the Top QS Business Master’s Ranked By Specialization

The QS Business Master’s Rankings 2027 are specialized rankings in five key areas of study that allow students to identify programs that align their career aspirations with popular industry sectors.

Master’s in Business Analytics

# Top 5 Business Analytics Programs 2027 Country
1. MIT (Sloan School of Management) United States
2. École Polytechnique/HEC Paris France
3. UCLA (Anderson School of Management) United States
4. ESSEC/CentraleSupélec France
5. NYU (Stern) United States

This specialization reveals one of the clearest year-on-year signals: the Business Analytics ranking alone grew from 198 ranked programs in 2026 to 234 in 2027. That continues a multi-year climb: 149 programs were ranked as recently as 2024, and 164 in 2025. Across all five specialized Business Master’s subjects combined, total entries now exceed 1,130, with 286 from the U.S. alone, up from 245 the year before. This growth reflects surging demand for data-and-analytics-focused business credentials as AI reshapes the job market

Unlike QS’s Management and Marketing rankings, where Europe‘s long-running strength is unmistakable, Business Analytics is described by QS itself as “the clearest transatlantic skills race” among the five subject rankings. In 2027, U.S. schools take six of the top 10 places and 10 of the top 20, while Europe takes four of the top 10 but still leads on total ranked programs, 99 to the U.S.’s 87.

The two regions win on different metrics. U.S. programs post a far stronger average Return on Investment score (76.4 vs. Europe’s 55.9), but Europe matches the U.S. at the very top on employability; the École Polytechnique/HEC Paris program scores a perfect 100, with London Business School and Imperial both above 98.

Master’s in Finance

# Top 5 Finance Programs 2027 Country
1. HEC Paris France
2. Oxford Saïd Business School United Kingdom
3. MIT (Sloan School of Management) United States
4. Cambridge Judge Business School United Kingdom
5. London Business School United Kingdom

Unlike Business Analytics, where the top of the table reshuffled significantly year to year, Finance shows real consistency: the 2027 top five; HEC Paris, Oxford Saïd, MIT Sloan, Cambridge Judge, and London Business School, is identical in order to 2026’s table. That’s unusual stability for a ranking this size, and suggests Finance has reached something closer to an equilibrium among its leading programs than Analytics has.

For years Oxford Saïd held the top spot in Finance (it topped the table as far back as 2020, ahead of MIT and HEC). That changed in 2026, when HEC Paris overtook Oxford Saïd for the first time, scoring a perfect 100/100. In 2027, HEC has retained the crown, but the margin is remarkably thin: HEC edged Oxford by just 0.4 of a point, even though Oxford actually scored higher than HEC on four of the five individual indicators. The deciding factor was Alumni Outcomes, where HEC held a 100-to-93 advantage. This is a reminder that these rankings can hinge on a single weighted category rather than across-the-board dominance.

Roughly 248 finance programs were ranked in 2026, growing to 286 in 2027, making it the largest of QS’s five specialized Business Master’s subjects, ahead of Management (256) and Business Analytics (234). Europe has the biggest slice, with 132 programs and 12 of the top 20 spots.

Master’s in Management

# Top 5 Management Programs 2027 Country
1. HEC Paris France
2. London Business School United Kingdom
3. ESSEC Business School France
4. CEMS France
=5. ESCP Europe France
=5.  INSEAD France

The Management ranking now covers 256 programs, with Europe accounting for 154 of them, or roughly 60% of the entire field. That’s a deeper regional concentration than Finance (Europe has 132 of 286, closer to 46%) or Business Analytics (Europe has 99 of 234, about 42%). Management is, proportionally, QS’s most “European” specialization.

HEC Paris was already reported as topping the Management (Strategic Management) ranking “for the fifth year running” back in the 2024 table, and it has held that position through 2026 and into 2027. Of the three rankings we’ve now looked at, the master’s in management specialization shows by far the longest unbroken streak at #1.

In 2027, HEC Paris still leads, but London Business School has moved up to hold #2 outright, and QS itself describes the top of the table as “remarkably stable” compared with 2026 — when ESSEC (3rd) and CEMS (4th) rounded out the top five. Within the top 10, only ESCP Europe and ESADE improved their position year-on-year, meaning almost everyone else either held steady or slipped. Imperial College Business School sits at 9th. Outside Europe, Columbia Business School is the only U.S. institution to crack the top 10, indicating a notably thinner American presence than in either Finance or Business Analytics.

Master’s in Marketing

# Top 5 Marketing Programs 2027 Country
1. HEC Paris France
2. ESSEC Business School France
3. ESCP Business School France
4. IE Business School Spain
5. Columbia Business School United States

The rankings for the Marketing specialization in 2026 and 2027 show an identical podium: HEC Paris, ESSEC Business School, ESCP Business School. ESCP has specifically confirmed its MSc in Marketing & Creativity held at 3rd worldwide in 2027, having first broken into the top 3 in 2026. Marketing in France is a solid choice, however, with Columbia Business School in #5, the sole US representative for the past few years, it is excelling on specific metrics.

Topping the field for Thought Leadership (98.6) and scoring a perfect 100 on both Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes. This suggests that Columbia’s marketing program competes on genuinely different strengths (thought leadership, alumni influence) rather than just riding high on U.S. market employability numbers.

In 2027, European schools take 8 of the top 10 places and 15 of the top 20 in Marketing. That’s a slightly larger European share of the top 10 than Management shows, and far larger than Business Analytics. Warwick Business School is the leading U.K. entrant at 6th, with Imperial and LSE also placing (LSE was a 2026 newcomer to the top 10, at 8th that year).

Top marketing programs have evolved to address digital transformation and new consumer behaviors. The 2027 rankings prioritize programs that successfully integrate traditional marketing principles with digital marketing, data analytics, and emerging technologies like AI and machine learning.

Master’s in Supply Chain Management

# Top 5 Supply Chain Management Programs 2027 Country
1. MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics United States
2. ESSEC Business School France
3. University of Michigan (Ross) United States
4. University of Sydney Business School Australia
5. WU Vienna University of Economics and Business Austria

In 2027, the Master’s in Supply Chain Management programs show strong growth, proving this a highly competitive and growing industry. MIT’s Center for Transportation & Logistics debuted in this ranking at #1 with a perfect overall score of 100 and 100 for Employability and Alumni Outcomes, making it the program to get into if you want to guarantee a successful career in Supply Chain Management.

Across multiple ranking tables in recent years (2022, 2024, 2026), the same core group keeps reappearing just behind the top spot: Michigan Ross, WU Vienna, Erasmus RSM, and emlyon (or USC) have rotated through the 2nd–5th positions for years, suggesting a fairly settled second tier even as the very top changed hands.

Supply Chain Management has gained prominence following technological and logistical disruptions experienced during the pandemic that highlighted the importance of resilient supply networks. The 2027 rankings reflect programs that deliver on cutting-edge curriculum and career outcomes.

What is the Methodology Used in the QS Business Master’s Rankings?

A total of 13 criteria form the basis of five key indicators used to rank the programs: ’employability’, ‘alumni outcomes’, ‘value for money’, ‘thought leadership’, and ‘class & faculty diversity’. QS evaluates over 760 programs in more than 40 countries according to these five key indicators: Employability, Alumni Outcomes, Value for Money, Thought Leadership, and Class diversity.

The QS Business Master’s ranking methodology uses both external data sources and institutional surveys, ensuring a comprehensive and objective evaluation across all measured dimensions. QS combines three data sources, the QS Global Employer Survey, the QS Global Academic Survey, and data submitted directly by business schools, to rank programs across five pillars.

Pillar Weight What it measures
Employability 30% (Finance/Business Analytics) – 35% (other subjects) Employer nominations from the QS Global Employer Survey, plus the employment rate within six months of graduation
Alumni Outcomes 15–20% The number of a school’s graduates who go on to become C-suite executives or board members at major global companies, sourced from public records and cross-referenced by QS
Return on Investment 20% A 10-year ROI calculation (average post-graduation salary weighed against tuition and cost-of-living) plus “Payback Month”, how quickly the cost of the program is recouped
Thought Leadership 15–20% QS Academic Reputation (survey of academics), Research Impact (via Elsevier’s Scopus database), and the percentage of faculty holding a Ph.D.
Class & Faculty Diversity 10% Percentage of female students and faculty, and the international mix of both students and faculty

This ranking methodology emphasizes practical outcomes over theoretical measures.

QS’s overall message for 2027 is that HEC Paris and MIT Sloan are the two dominant forces this cycle. The single clearest storyline across all five subject rankings; HEC tops Management, Finance, and Marketing, and MIT tops Business Analytics and Supply Chain Management. European schools claim 33 of the 50 total top-10 slots across all five subject rankings combined, even though the U.S. and U.K. punch well above their program counts in Finance and Analytics specifically.

Reading Between the Lines

The further a specialization leans toward quantitative/tech skills (Business Analytics), the more the U.S. competes and the more volatile the rankings get; the further it leans toward general management, the more entrenched European, and specifically French grande école, dominance becomes. Finance sits in between, with Europe winning on ROI-at-the-top and the U.K./U.S. matching on employability.

A Transatlantic Skills-based Divide

Marketing and Management are essentially French/European strongholds with a single U.S. outpost (Columbia) holding the line; Finance is a genuine transatlantic contest with Europe winning on ROI and U.K./U.S. matching on employability; and Business Analytics is the one category where the U.S. doesn’t just compete but leads outright and rotates its own contenders year to year. If Supply Chain Management follows the pattern QS itself flagged, MIT topping it too, it would suggest the divide really is skills-based: quantitative/technical specializations skew American, general-management and brand-oriented specializations skew French/European.

How Does This Translate for Students Using the Rankings?

For prospective students, the practical takeaway is this: pick your specialization first, then let geography follow it, not the other way around. If you’re set on Business Analytics or Supply Chain Management, the strongest and most stable options skew American (MIT, plus resurgent contenders like Michigan Ross).

If you want Management, Marketing, or Finance, Europe, especially France’s HEC, ESSEC, and ESCP, offers deeper benches, tighter alumni networks, and often better value-for-money scores.

Above all, treat these as program rankings, not school prestige rankings: the same institution can lead one subject and miss the top 10 in another, so check the specific degree, not just the brand.
