Expanding Women’s Access to Tech With Frankfurt School Scholarships

In the modern era, finance and technology are inextricably linked. The intersection of the two, the Financial Technology (or FinTech) industry, demands leaders who can harness the power of digitization, AI, machine learning, and data-driven innovation to shape the future.

Yet, without advancing women’s inclusion and empowerment, FinTech cannot evolve to reach its full potential and represent society as a whole. That’s why some of Europe’s biggest business schools are taking the initiative. Frankfurt School of Finance and Management breaks down gender barriers with its new Master in Financial Technology program, offering a range of scholarships for outstanding female students.

The Women Diversity Scholarships at Frankfurt School

WM Gruppe is supporting the launch of the program with two special Women Diversity Scholarships. These are exclusively awarded to outstanding candidates in the fields of financial technology and data science.

The German financial service provider’s scholarships reflect Frankfurt School’s strong commitment to diversity and innovation. By matching the amount of funding put forward by WM Gruppe, Frankfurt School has created two scholarships covering 50 percent of the tuition fees for eligible recipients.

Minqi Lin is currently studying for a Master in Financial Technology at the leading business school in Germany. As a 2025 WM Gruppe Women Diversity Scholarship awardee for financial technology, she is keen to share how both the program and scholarship inspire more women to enter and influence the traditionally male-dominated field of FinTech.

“It’s not… a number game,” insists Minqi. “It’s more about cognitive diversity.” (02:40) “Women actually make up half of the market. Losing women in this industry means missing half of the clients in the market.” (02:52) She refers to the cognitive bias that pervades many digital products due to a lack of female perspective in the product development cycle.

She further elaborates, “If a product is designed by a homogenous group, it could have blind spots. So, we really need cognitive diversity to help us close the skills gap and build unbiased financial models and product solutions.” (03:33)

The WM Gruppe-funded scholarships at Frankfurt School are just one example of the many opportunities offering direct financial support to outstanding female students. The business school has awarded 465 scholarships for its 2025 cohort alone.

The Frankfurt School FinTech Master

Flexibility is the cornerstone of Frankfurt School’s Master of Science (MSc) in Financial Technology. The program is specifically designed to cater to the needs of early-stage professionals who need to balance their careers and studies.

“The unique feature of Frankfurt School is its three-day work model,” explains Minqi. (09:23) “It helps us maintain financial independence and career momentum. We can apply what we learned in the class directly to the workplace and gain a more in-depth insight [into] the industry.” (09:40)

Students attend classes just three days a week across two weekdays and a Saturday. This enables both professional and academic growth. The program itself blends rigorous study with practical, hands-on research. The school leverages its connections in the industry, bringing in finance and technology experts to enhance its offerings. This immerses students in the realities of an ever-evolving industry that is challenged by technological innovations.

Robust Support For Female Fintech Students

Frankfurt School offers a comprehensive support system to help women during their learning journey. As Minqi highlights, “This well-rounded support system can really help women students to reach the full potential of their study life as well as their career growth.” (08:03)

The Frankfurt School Women in Business initiative provides women with a space to connect, share ideas, and become inspired. It also provides the resources they need to hone their skills and expand their network.

Another initiative, the WO:MEN Business Forum, is an intensive exchange of ideas and experiences focused on gender diversity. The forum features discussions with key industry players and ambitious young professionals.

Moreover, the Frankfurt School Entrepreneurship Centre (FSEC) acts as a valuable point of contact for female entrepreneurs. The FSEC center’s Incubator program provides all students with mentor-led coaching sessions. It also provides long-term support for startups at all stages. The center also offers a six-to-eight-week accelerator program, providing one-to-one mentoring, valuable resources, and networking opportunities for students with startup goals.

The FSEC also curates a program of events throughout the year, including those that bring together the school’s female community of entrepreneurs and investors to create an inspirational safe space.

Applying For a Frankfurt School FinTech Scholarship

When it comes to securing a Frankfurt School FinTech scholarship, Minqi believes you should demonstrate how the FinTech focus aligns with your career goals. And don’t forget to illustrate how you intend to contribute to the school’s community.

It’s also important to give a sense of your own personal situation. “From my perspective, I think it’s not only about showing your good grades, but also about telling your own story,” she explains. (08:24

“It’s really important to combine your own story with the questions,” she expands. “Because that’s what really makes your application stand out from the intense competition.” (09:06)
