The M2M program presents a unique chance to secure dual master’s degrees from Yale School of Management (SOM) and either HEC Paris, HKUST, or UBC Sauder.
Why get one master’s degree when you can get two? This is what the M2M program provides.
The M2M, or master-to-master, network is an innovative partnership that provides students with two master’s degrees at two of the world’s top business schools. The business schools in the partnership are Yale School of Management (SOM) in the US, HKUST Business School in Hong Kong, HEC Paris in France, and UBC Sauder in Canada.
The M2M program cultivates a global mindset and cultural adaptability, which are essential in today’s international business landscape. After obtaining their first degree from either HKUST, HEC Paris, or UBC Sauder, all students head to Yale. Most students will come in with a master in management (MiM) degree and join Yale’s Master of Management Studies in Global Business & Society (GBS). However, those who get an MBA from HEC Paris will join the Master of Advanced Management program instead.

The M2M program takes a multidisciplinary approach to business education. This is particularly true of the GBS degree program at Yale.
GBS spans the vast landscape of leadership, integrating advanced business acumen with societal impact. This degree is meant to be combined with a master’s degree from another business school. While students can get in outside of the M2M program, GBS is most easily applied to as part of M2M.
GBS’s curriculum allows students to choose classes from all of Yale University. This inclusivity allows for exploration beyond the traditional scope of business education. Half of the required credits come from core Advanced Management courses from Yale SOM, the remaining credits are electives.
Requiring 36 credits within nine months, the GBS program is academically challenging, ensuring a deep, immersive learning experience.
Flexibility is often cited by GBS students as the program’s key strength. Reflecting on the program’s adaptability, one participant shares, “Half our credits can come from anywhere across Yale, so we can really pretty much build our own degree.” (00:18)
For example, this student plans to focus her GBS electives on planetary health to study humanity and the ecosystems on which we depend. Planetary health demands a highly interdisciplinary approach, and thankfully the GBS program’s flexible structure supports such ambitions.
The GBS program welcomes applicants from the M2M program, and those who are about to complete or have completed a MiM or an equivalent degree. The GBS application process allows simultaneous applications to both M2M partner programs.
The Yale GBS admissions committee highly regards applicants from schools within the Global Network for Advanced Management. Demonstrating your qualifications is crucial if your school is not in the Global Network or an M2M program partner.
For example, ESMT Berlin is not a partner of the M2M program, but is part of the Global Network. Thus, students from their Master in Global Management (MGM) can apply to join the GBS program.
One advantage of doing a dual master’s, whether in the M2M program or not, is the increased opportunity for networking and learning from diverse perspectives.
The Master of Management Studies in Global Business & Society program thrives on the international diversity of its participants. GBS students hail from numerous countries and bring a wealth of professional and academic experiences. This diversity fosters enriched discussions, offering a plethora of perspectives in every class.
That diversity then feeds directly into the alumni network once students graduate.
One participant observes, “The network that I’ve made here is a lot more diverse than it was before. I’ve met people from all around the world. I met people from different industries and people from different backgrounds. Also, when you look at recruiting, the CDO, the Career Development Office, really helps you expand your network. You can reach out to all the different Yale alumni, and everyone is super willing to help you.” (01:44)
