Founded in 1946 by a consortium of major Dutch corporations like KLM, Shell, and Unilever, Nyenrode Business University is the only private research university in the Netherlands. Known for its strong ties to industry, Nyenrode offers a practical, internationally oriented business education. Its full-time MBA, delivered in Amsterdam, focuses on strategic management and real-world leadership.
Students gain exposure to global business through company visits, Dutch trade insights, and a close-knit professional network. Location
Nyenrode Business University has two campuses in the Netherlands: one in Amsterdam and another in Breukelen, a smaller town lying between Amsterdam and Utrecht. While the Amsterdam campus is centrally located in one of the liveliest cities in Europe, the tranquil Breukelen campus is situated in the grounds of a 13th-century castle – but still a short distance away from the capital city.
The Amsterdam campus is equipped with modern study facilities, a business lounge, and the Nyenrode Incubator. The Breukelen campus offers conference rooms and classrooms, a library, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, two restaurants, two hotels, and three bars. Students in Breukelen also benefit from on-campus housing, which fosters a close-knit and community-oriented atmosphere.
Furthermore, the Netherlands is an endearingly popular destination for international students, boasting a competitive economy, numerous post-graduate job opportunities, and a high standard of living.
Accreditations
Nyenrode Business University is accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), an internationally recognized accreditation authority for business schools and companies, with the EQUIS accreditation. EQUIS stands for EFMD Quality Improvement System
The Dutch Ministry of Education accredits Nyenrode’s bachelor’s and master’s programs through its national quality assurance agency, the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO).
Programs
Programs such as the Master's in Business Administration (MBA) and Master's in Management (MScM) provide a combination of academic theory, practical application, and personal development. Nyenrode Business University’s Master of Science in Management is a full-time, 16-month program offered in both Amsterdam and Breukelen. Designed for candidates with 0-3 years of work experience, the program combines business knowledge with practical learning and personal development opportunities.
The first four months of the program comprise the pre-Master’s component (starting in August), a foundational course designed to prepare incoming students for the 12-month master’s program (starting in January). Students then proceed to the compulsory modules, followed by one of three tracks: Digital Business & Innovation, Financial Management, or Global Business. Before concluding with an individual thesis, the program includes a week-long Global Immersion Module where students visit companies abroad.
Scholarships
Nyenrode Business University offers partial scholarships for talented students. The Master of Science in Management program typically offers 10 scholarships worth EUR€10,000 each.
Fun fact
Nyenrode Business University is engaged in a variety of environmental initiatives, with a deep-rooted commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives include installing charging stations for electric cars, offering free rental bikes, and utilizing a mixture of LED lights and motion sensors throughout both campuses. As an organization, Nyenrode is dedicated to making positive sustainable impact when it comes to energy procurement, energy consumption, office furniture, mobility and transportation, restoration of monuments, renovation of rooms and buildings, landscaping, cleaning, and waste management.
In 2020, working in partnership with catering specialist Vermaat, Nyenrode saved 2,522.50 kilograms of food, equivalent to 155,752 showers and 1,231.69 kilometers of car rides!
